
In 1126, the little town “Aicha” acquired a small city wall. After its status was elevated to that of a town by Emperor Ludwig, an improved city wall and gothic gates were erected. It as probably at this time that the foundations of the gate were laid. The upper tower had been destroyed during the Swedish occupation. The gate was rebuilt without the permission of the higher authorities in Munich and was completed by 1697. Andreas Adler designed this baroque constuction. |
